Library 2.0
This class has been very enlightening for me, although it did seem overwhelming at times. But I think actually having to just use the web sites has been the best way to learn. I think we might use blogging or a wiki at our library, perhaps with book clubs, summer reading or news of upcoming events. I’ve enjoyed the del.ic.ious account and facebook for myself. I think the application that I’d probably use the least was technorati, although it’s fun to look at – just too much information out there. Thank you, Kathy, for organizing all this.
Pictures
Just fooling around with Flickr. The world-record setting pumpkin-flinging trebuchet is in Greenfield, NH. Also a picture of mowing hay taken last summer, and my favorite ash tree.
Leap Day!
Last weeks assignments in Library 2.0 were fun and less intimidating than some others (especially RSS feeds). I already had a Librarything account, although hadn’t done much with it. Setting up the Facebook account was no problem. My sons were horrified, however, that I tried to link to them as friends – how embarassing!
We made a trip up to UNH at Durham over the February vacation. We all loved the campus, just have to hope for a miracle in financial aid. Getting back into the swing of school, etc. this week. It helps that every day there’s a little more light.
It’s almost spring!
It’s lighter earlier in the am now, and the Red Sox are in Florida. Soon (well maybe not so soon), I’ll hear the redwing blackbirds down in the marsh.
I’m feeling less overwhelmed by all these new ideas we’ve been learning in Library 2.0. It will be interesting to see if our patrons (or maybe people in town who don’t come to the library), will pick up on, say, a blog. We may try one for our book group, they’re usually a fairly adventurous bunch.
Next week, we’re going up to check out UNH with my son. He’s been admitted (waiting on a couple of other places), and is very excited about it. Now – to come up with the funds!

So, after much frustration, going back over material from our wiki, thinking I will never figure out any of this techno stuff, I finally took another (squinting) look at the screen and realized I had been typing an i instead of an l in the endpoint address for posting to my blog. (I’d even created a second blog, hoping that might work).
The light dawns!
Here’s a picture to illustrate how I feel about now. My son caught this amazing double rainbow over our hayfield a couple of summers ago.
Muddling Along
I’ve gotten somewhat behind this week on the Library 2.0 coursework. I’m having a problem with the Flikr site and enabling posts of pictures to my blog. I have an E-Mail in to the site asking about my problem, but haven’t heard anything yet. Thanks for your help, Kathy, but nothing seems to have worked thus far. I think I need to just set that part aside for now and move on.
One of the things we were thinking of doing with the summer reading theme this year, was having patrons bring in pictures of any kind of wildlife they’ve seen around Plympton or while they were on vacation. I can see the Flikr site working well for this, as we could then post their photos to a blog.
This weekends been mostly catching up on work around the house. Will get back on track after the Super-Bowl!
