Muddling Along

I’ve gotten somewhat behind this week on the Library 2.0 coursework. I’m having a problem with the Flikr site and enabling posts of pictures to my blog. I have an E-Mail in to the site asking about my problem, but haven’t heard anything yet. Thanks for your help, Kathy, but nothing seems to have worked thus far. I think I need to just set that part aside for now and move on.

One of the things we were thinking of doing with the summer reading theme this year, was having patrons bring in pictures of any kind of wildlife they’ve seen around Plympton or while they were on vacation. I can see the Flikr site working well for this, as we could then post their photos to a blog.

This weekends been mostly catching up on work around the house. Will get back on track after the Super-Bowl!

    Hi Kathy,

Sorry to hear about the Flickr trouble! Let us know what you hear back from the folks at Flickr. There is somebody else who is having the same problem. I’m guessing it’s a glitch on their side.

If you know that some of your patrons are already on Flickr, another possibility is to set up a Flickr group for your library. You could then post a link on your Web site for patrons to join the group. They could then upload the photos to your own Flickr account and share them with the Plympton library group. It all depends on your user base and whether they are already using Flickr, but it might be a good way to get photos from people who don’t get a chance to go to the library. Here’s an example from a group created from last fall’s NELA conference. It includes photos from ten different Flickr accounts.

I’ve also heard of weddings where they create similar Flickr groups. Everyone can then upload wedding photos to their Flickr account and add them to the group for the wedding. It sure beats the cost of hiring a photographer.
